 The Grand Opening!

Dear ONE Spirit Family Members,

The long-held dream of opening the Charging Buffalo House has finally come to fruition and as you helped to make this happen, we hope you will be able to attend the Grand Opening on Saturday, July 7, 2018! The opening will feature not only a chance to see the Buffalo House but also an exhibit of the many ways the buffalo helps the Lakota people, including the process of brain tanning and products that use brain tanned hides. There will also be a performance by Lakota youth dancers, and the opportunity to enjoy buffalo stew or buffalo burgers.

In addition to the formal Grand Opening, we would like to offer some additional activities during your visit to Pine Ridge Reservation.

There are so many things to see and do. Here are a few that might be of interest: horseback riding in the Badlands with the White Plume Tiospaye, touring the Allen Youth Center, visiting Wounded Knee Memorial site, shopping at the Singing Horse Trading Post where there is a large amount of Lakota arts displayed, visiting the Historical Center at Lakota College in Kyle.

Places to Stay

We're including a list of nearby places to stay and the very limited places to eat on the Reservation. However, you are likely to be well fed with food offered at the Buffalo House and the Youth center. We would also recommend that if time allows, that you have lunch one day at Betty’s Kitchen in Manderson to sample her home cooking. Betty is a descendant of Black Elk. We are also inserting a map of the Reservation. Remember that the Reservation is as large as the State of Connecticut so it takes time to go from one place to another.
